The Frigate Jylland is part of the Royal Danish Navy Collection from Old St. Croix. The blend brings together younger and older rum distillates from distilleries in the Caribbean and Central America. They are made from molasses and distilled in columns. Production involves slow fermentation and gentle distillation, followed by maturation in younger and older oak casks, including bourbon casks. After maturation, the alcohol content is reduced to 45%. The blend has a walnut-brown colour. This rum-based spirit comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Part of the proceeds from sales of this bottling supports the preservation of the frigate Jylland. Between 1871 and 1887, the wooden warship made five voyages to the Danish West Indies. Today, it is a museum ship in Ebeltoft. Its connection with Riise dates back to its visits to St. Thomas; according to legend, the crew received a daily ration of spirits from Riise's stocks.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is dark and intense, recalling cigar boxes, caramel and chocolate. Fresh notes of grass and mint sit above these aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, the blend starts gently before gaining intensity. Pineapple, honeydew melon and banana emerge, followed by rich milk chocolate.
• Finish: In the finish, the orange recalls a chocolate-and-orange sweet. A light spiciness follows.

Distillery/Bottler:

Old St. Croix carries forward the history of the former A.H. Riise brand. Its namesake, Albert Heinrich Riise, opened a pharmacy on St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies in 1838. There, he initially used alcohol derived from sugar cane to make medicinal preparations and later also developed rum. The neighbouring island of St. Croix supplied raw materials for this and gave his export brand its name. In 2025, Old St. Croix became the name of the entire range previously sold under A.H. Riise.

Today's Navy blends centre on selecting and blending distillates from different distilleries. The Master Distiller chooses younger and older stocks that together shape the character of each bottling. Introduced in 2012, the Royal Danish Navy series draws on the historical connection between Riise, the West Indies and the Danish navy.
