Special Features:

Original Dark brings together two Caribbean rum styles: column- and pot-still distillates from Barbados are joined by distinctly aromatic pot-still rums from Jamaica. The blend combines exotic fruit, spice and the fruity, fermentation-derived notes typical of Jamaican rum. Its full, smooth texture makes it a versatile base for cocktails.

Molasses is the base ingredient. After their initial maturation, the rums undergo an additional ageing period in Cognac, in south-western France. Burnt sugar, spices and a subtle banana note also contribute to Original Dark’s character.

This version contains 2.8 litres of rum at 40% alcohol in a pouch. The recyclable pouch offers a generous format for home bars and hospitality venues. Original Dark belongs to the Bar Classics range, developed for use in cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark chocolate and caramelised sugar lead on the nose. Fruity notes complement the bold aromas.
• Palate: The rum is full-bodied on the palate. Caramel and dried fruit shape the flavour, accompanied by a subtle spicy note.
• Finish: The finish is long and warm. Subtle notes of vanilla and oak linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founder and Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel is the person behind Planteray. For the Bar Classics range, he works with bartenders, rum specialists and historians. Rather than making the different styles of origin uniform, he combines them deliberately to suit each blend.

Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados is an important production site. Its team cultivates its own yeast strains, including locally occurring yeasts, and uses different fermentation times alongside column stills and traditional pot stills. The Jamaican network includes Long Pond and Clarendon through a stake in National Rums of Jamaica. This variety of methods creates the different rum styles Gabriel works with when blending.
