The Tawny Port Cask Finish gives this ten-year-old rum from Panama its nutty, chocolate-led character. For batch #02-25, further maturation in Tawny Port casks complements the Spanish-style rum. Oxidative ageing gives Tawny Port a different character from Ruby Port; its nutty influence works here with the walnut and chocolate notes.

El Ron del Artesano uses no added sugar, added flavourings or artificial colouring. The rum is not chill-filtered either. This bottling has an alcohol content of 42.1% and is offered in a bottle containing 0.2 litres, without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals honeydew melon and orange juice. Sweetish walnut and chocolate notes mingle with spicy cloves. A hint of wood complements the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the rum recalls creamy milk chocolate and has a velvety feel. Wood notes are harmoniously integrated, while a light nuttiness complements the influence of the Tawny Port finish. The flavour is gentle yet powerful.
• Finish: Oak, port wine and walnut linger on the finish. It is gentle, with a slight oxidative note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The family story behind El Ron del Artesano began in 1880 with a small distillery and cooperage in the Black Forest. Spirits were produced there, and casks were built and repaired. Viktor learned both crafts, gained further experience on his travels and then returned to the family business. The cooper depicted on the label commemorates him.

In the fifth generation, El Ron del Artesano emerged as a rum project with ties to Panama. Sebastian began selecting casks there in 2012 and is responsible for the maturation and selection of the rums. The family stores Panamanian rums in selected casks in its own warehouse; tastings determine when they are ready for bottling. Bottling and labelling are carried out by hand.
