The Ruby Port finish adds another stage to this Panamanian rum's maturation in former bourbon casks. The rum first spends seven years in ex-bourbon barrels before continuing to mature in Ruby Port casks from Portugal. Its eight-year age statement denotes a full maturation period, not a Solera average. This edition is part of El Ron del Artesano's core range.

The port casks are carefully emptied before being filled with rum. El Ron del Artesano uses no added sugar or additional flavourings; the character comes from the rum and its cask maturation. It is also neither chill-filtered nor artificially coloured. This bottling from batch 06-24 contains 0.2 litres of rum at 43.4% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Initially, the rum offers aromas of cherries and prunes, accompanied by milk chocolate and orange. With time and air, delicate vanilla notes and dried orange peel emerge. Caramel and blood orange also appear as the aroma develops; the nose is slightly sweet.
• Palate: The rum opens softly and silkily on the palate. Cream toffees and cherry cake join cherries and vanilla. The red fruit initially recalls cherries, developing into darker plum notes towards the finish. At the same time, the chocolate impression shifts towards dark chocolate and cocoa. The rum remains soft and rounded, with the alcohol staying in the background.
• Finish: The alcohol briefly comes forward on the finish but remains well integrated and gentle on the tongue. A dark cocoa note defines the balanced, full-bodied aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

El Ron del Artesano is an independent bottler with roots in a Black Forest family of distillers and coopers. The family business began in 1880 with a small distillery and cooperage, where casks were built and repaired. Viktor, the founder's son, learned both crafts and gained further experience with spirits during a three-year journey. The cooper depicted on the label commemorates him and his work.

In the fifth generation, Sebastian Lauinger carried the family tradition forward into Panamanian rum. Since 2012, he has been involved in cask selection in Panama and has overseen the maturation and selection of the rums. Tastings determine when rum from the selected casks in the family's warehouse is ready to be bottled. Bottling and labelling are carried out by hand.
