Savanna AGA brings together two distinct rum styles: Rhum Agricole made from sugarcane juice and Grand Arôme made from long-fermented molasses. Both spirits are distilled in the distillery’s new copper column, which replaces its previous Savalle column. This white, unaged rum thus combines different raw materials and fermentation methods in a single bottling.

The limited 2026 edition comes from batch AGA.02.26 and comprises 2,350 bottles. Its ester content is 190.5 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. In total, the rum contains 411.3 grams of congeners—compounds formed alongside alcohol during fermentation and distillation—per the same reference volume. It is bottled at 57% in 0.5-litre bottles. Its aromatic concentration also makes it suitable for cocktails with a distinctive character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, salty, olive-like notes mingle with papaya. Ripe strawberries add a more delicate fruity accent.
• Palate: The rum is intense and lively on the palate. Strawberry fruit meets pronounced peppery heat, with an oily texture.
• Finish: The long finish is dry and concentrated. Raisins, subtle spice and lingering warmth shape the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Savanna has close ties to Réunion’s sugar industry. The distillery was established in 1870 on the sugar estate of the same name in the west of the island. In 1992, it moved to Saint-André, beside the Bois Rouge sugar factory. It has marketed its rums under its own Savanna brand since 2003; before that, most of its production went to other bottlers.

Savanna’s approach includes cultivating its own yeasts and experimenting with different fermentation methods. The distillery produces both sugarcane juice rum and various molasses rums, including Grand Arôme and light rums. This range provides the background to AGA, which brings together two strands of its production. Thierry Grondin is the Master Distiller responsible for this edition.
