Special Features:

Amrut uses only malted rye for this whisky. This sets it apart from many rye whiskies that also use unmalted rye. The rye comes from Europe, while distillation and maturation take place in India. Amrut uses new charred American oak casks to balance the rye spirit’s bold spice.

Its fruit notes range from berries and ripe orange to kumquat. Lavender and honeysuckle add floral accents, complemented by vanilla cream and gentle spice. Mango, pineapple and banana appear first, followed by cinnamon, rosemary and grassy cereal notes. The whisky is bottled at 50% in a 0.7-litre bottle. It is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, berries and ripe oranges mingle with lavender, a little spice and vanilla cream.
• Palate: Fruit and honeysuckle appear first on the palate, followed by slightly tart kumquat and vanilla cream. The texture then turns velvety and creamy, with lavender, a jammy fruit note and gentle spice joining in.
• Finish: A gentle spice note lingers on the finish, accompanied by a mouth-watering sensation.

Distillery/Bottler:

Amrut Distilleries traces its roots to Amrut Laboratories, founded by J. N. Radhakrishna in Bangalore in 1948. The company initially served mainly the Indian market. After the founder’s death in 1976, his son Neelakanta Rao Jagdale took over and developed Amrut into an internationally known whisky producer. In 1986, the company built a production facility in Kumbalgodu near Bengaluru; in 2004, Amrut introduced its single malt in Glasgow.

For its Rye Malt, Amrut uses malted rye exclusively rather than the barley used for many of its single malts. Maturation in new charred American oak casks is a deliberate choice for this bottling, intended to balance the rye spirit’s bold character.
