This gift pack combines a 0.7-litre bottle of Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky with 0.05 litres of Kyrö Wood Smoke. Both rye whiskies are bottled at 47.2%; the miniature complements the non-smoky Kyrö Malt with a distinctly smoky expression.

Kyrö Malt is a single-batch whisky made from 100% malted Finnish wholegrain rye. After double distillation in pot stills, it matures for at least three years in new American white oak casks. This combination of rye and fresh oak shapes its spicy character, accompanied by sweet grain and caramel notes.

Kyrö Wood Smoke is also made exclusively from malted Finnish wholegrain rye. The malt is smoked with alderwood in a 100-year-old drying barn. Following double distillation in pot stills, the whisky matures in ex-bourbon casks, French oak and new American white oak casks. The miniature therefore combines rye spice and oak notes with sweet, clearly perceptible wood smoke.

The whiskies are non-chill-filtered and contain no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Kyrö Malt offers aromas of pepper, vanilla, caramel and dried fruit. Kyrö Wood Smoke presents vanilla, caramel and pepper, accompanied by sweet smoke and a tarry nuance.
• Palate: Kyrö Malt combines sweet rye bread with honey and forest berries. Kyrö Wood Smoke is powerfully smoky, bringing together sweet rye bread, honey and oak.
• Finish: Kyrö Malt finishes smoothly with caramel and mocha. Kyrö Wood Smoke has a long finish in which spicy rye and smoky tea intertwine.

Distillery/Bottler:

The idea for Kyrö Distillery arose when five friends discussed rye whisky in a Finnish sauna. They found a disused dairy in Isokyrö for the distillery, where the still was first fired up in 2014. The long-awaited Kyrö Malt Whisky was released in 2019.

Rye remains at the heart of the distillery. Kyrö uses only Finnish wholegrain rye for its spirits, even though this demanding grain presents particular processing challenges. For Kyrö Malt and Kyrö Wood Smoke, the malted rye is distilled twice in pot stills; smoking the Wood Smoke expression with alderwood applies a traditional Nordic drying method to rye whisky.
