Rock Island brings together single malts from Scottish islands, including Islay, Arran, Jura and Orkney. Douglas Laing creates this blended malt by marrying whiskies from individual casks in small batches. Salty, sweet, earthy and smoky notes shape the blend, with smoke that is restrained rather than powerful.

This bottling belongs to the Remarkable Regional Malts range, which represents different Scottish whisky regions through regionally composed malts. Rock Island represents the islands within the range. The whisky is bottled at 46.8%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose evokes sea-washed rocks and fresh, salty sea air.
• Palate: The whisky is delicate and restrained on the palate. Gentle, slightly sweet peat notes mingle with smoke, honey, damp ash and liquorice, while pepper emerges later.
• Finish: The finish brings back the salty maritime notes, along with sweet peat, smoke, honey, damp ash, liquorice and pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fred Douglas Laing founded Douglas Laing & Co. in 1948. This independent Scottish whisky company remains family-owned in its third generation. Alongside single-cask bottlings, it creates the Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts whose concept centres on the origins of the selected whiskies. For Rock Island, Douglas Laing acts as bottler, bringing together malts from several island distilleries rather than focusing on whisky from a single distillery.
