Sherry casks shape the entire maturation of Tamdhu 18 Year Old, rather than just a final finishing period. The whisky matures in Oloroso sherry casks made from American and European oak, with first-fill European oak casks accounting for the larger share. This cask selection brings together Tamdhu’s fruity distillery character, pronounced sherry notes and a deep natural colour.

The 18-year-old expression was introduced in 2022, the year of the distillery’s 125th anniversary. It is bottled at 46.8% without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dry, nutty sherry notes meet cherries, plums and milk chocolate. Rum-soaked raisins, citrus notes and baked oats add further layers.
• Palate: Rich sherry notes spread across the palate and coat the mouth. Vanilla and brown sugar accompany red apple and dried fruit.
• Finish: The long, warming finish combines dried apricots and dates with gentle spice and stewed apple.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamdhu was founded on the banks of the Spey in 1897. A group of merchants and entrepreneurs from the whisky trade commissioned distillery architect Charles C. Doig to design it. The distillery is located near Knockando in Speyside and draws its water from the Tamdhu spring.

Selecting sherry casks made from American and European oak is part of Tamdhu’s approach. A high proportion of first-fill casks gives the whisky a strong cask influence. The 18-year-old expression brings together the different influences of both types of oak and matures entirely in Oloroso sherry casks.
