Palate: Complex layers of ginger biscuits, sandalwood, muscovado sugar and white chocolate with hints of dark berries, plum and baking spices.
Finish: Warming spices and toasted oak leading into vanilla custard, milk chocolate and roasted chestnuts.
He succeeds in underscoring the smoothness of his whiskies with fruity cask finishes. Oloroso sherry casks were used for the limited 2011 edition of the Tomintoul 12 yo. This buttery, sweet single malt was initially matured in bourbon casks. The same applies to the Tomintoul 14 yo, which was then aged in cognac casks for delicious notes like almond pudding, ginger biscuits, and chocolate. Fortified wine casks from the island of Madeira crowned the maturation of the Tomintoul 15 yo. The effect? Succulent layers of chocolate-covered raisins, plum compote, candied fruit peel, and tiramisu.

Description
Considered one of the smoothest whiskies in Speyside, Tomintoul is equally popular with beginners and as a relaxed after-work dram. This single malt from the picturesque Cairngorms National Park has been produced using traditional methods since the distillery was founded in 1964. For over 20 years, Robert Fleming has been at the helm of Tomintoul's four tall, high-return pot stills. As the fourth-generation master distiller, he has significantly shaped the exceptionally smooth, malty-floral character of Tomintoul—creating accessible "gentle drams" that are both award-winning and affordable. He succeeds in underscoring the smoothness of his whiskies with fruity cask finishes.
