Special Features:

An extended finish in former Scotch whisky casks shapes this Versailles from Rum Nation's Rare Rums series. Distilled from molasses in 2004 on a wooden pot still, the rum matured for a total of 18 years. Of that total, four and a half years were spent finishing in whisky casks.

Rum from casks 74, 95 and 97 was selected for the 2022 bottling. This small batch comprises 972 individually numbered bottles of 0.7 litres each, bottled at a cask strength of 59%. A glass stopper and a cylindrical gift tube complete the presentation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is distinctly floral and herbal. Chamomile, medicinal herbs, anise and arnica mingle with perfumed and waxy notes. Camphor and white pepper add a slightly pungent nuance.
• Palate: The palate is very dry and mineral, yet dense and full-bodied. Beeswax, herbs and pepper lead the flavour. Lemon zest, apple, pear and mango follow. There is no pronounced estery fruit note.
• Finish: Chamomile tea lingers through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The name Versailles refers to a historic distillery in Guyana and its wooden still. When the distillery closed in 1975, the still survived: it moved first to Enmore, then to Uitvlugt and, following the latter's closure in 2000, to Diamond Distillery. The Versailles Pot Still remains in use there today. This vintage therefore continues the still's distilling tradition rather than coming from the long-closed original distillery.

Fabio Rossi founded Rum Nation in 1999 to showcase the different rum styles of individual countries of origin. The independent bottler purchases mature rums from selected distilleries and has them blended and bottled in Italy. While many bottlings focus on the country of origin, the Rare Rums series also names the distillery and cask numbers. Small batches, cask-strength bottling and individually numbered bottles make the selection traceable.
