Special Features:

This independent bottling combines a ten-year-old Mortlach with a finish in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. The Speyside single malt was distilled in 2016 and bottled by Signatory Vintage in 2026 as number 84 in its 100 Proof Edition.

The name 100 Proof refers to the traditional British proof scale and corresponds here to a bottling strength of 57.1%. The whisky comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The PX finish brings dark and dried fruits, sherry sweetness, caramel and cocoa. Toasted nuts, cinnamon, pepper and a drier spiciness add further accents, while the overall style remains non-smoky.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, ripe plums and dark berries combine with figs and raisins. Caramel and a delicate cocoa note complement the fruity sherry character.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and powerful on the palate. Honey, dried fruits and toasted nuts meet cocoa or dark chocolate, cinnamon and pepper.
• Finish: The long finish brings together caramel, dark cocoa and delicate sherry sweetness. Dry spice, hints of oak and dark fruit linger in the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Mortlach was founded in 1823 and was the first licensed distillery in Dufftown. Towards the end of the 19th century, Alexander Cowie developed the complex 2.81-fold distillation process that remains in use today. Together with the traditional worm-tub condensers, it shapes the distillery’s robust, multifaceted house character, which meets the sweet PX sherry finish in this bottling.

Signatory Vintage was established in Edinburgh in 1988 by Andrew Symington and his brother. Its first bottling was a Glenlivet distilled in 1968. The acquisition of Edradour Distillery in 2002 gave the company its own base in Pitlochry, and its operations had moved there by 2007. As an independent bottler, Signatory selects casks from various Scottish distilleries and released this Mortlach as Edition #84 in its 100 Proof range.
