Aberlour Double Cask brings together two separate maturation paths: some of the whisky ages in former bourbon casks, while the rest ages in former sherry casks. Both mature for the same length of time before the whiskies are brought together. For this twelve-year-old bottling, Double Cask therefore means parallel maturation rather than simply a short finish in a second cask type.

This non-smoky single malt combines fruity notes with a pronounced sherry influence and spicy accents. It is bottled at 40% alcohol and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is gentle and fruity, with notes of apple.
• Palate: The whisky feels velvety soft on the palate. Sherry influence combines with notes of chocolate and coffee beans, accompanied by cinnamon and ginger.
• Finish: Sweet and spicy notes linger in the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Fleming founded Aberlour in 1879 in the Speyside village of the same name. The distillery stands beside the River Lour. It uses locally grown barley and natural spring water from Ben Rinnes for its single malt, keeping two fundamental ingredients closely connected to its location.

Cask selection is another central part of the distillery's approach. American oak and Spanish sherry casks shape its style, with Oloroso sherry casks playing an important role. In its Double Cask process, Aberlour matures whiskies separately in bourbon and sherry casks before bringing the two cask influences together. This approach shapes several bottlings in its core range.
