Casg Annamh means “rare cask” in Gaelic. Batch 0009 is a small-batch official bottling with no age statement. Maturation combines Spanish Oloroso sherry casks with two different types of American oak cask. The selected Spanish oak butts previously held Oloroso and add sweet, rich notes to Aberlour's spirit. The whisky is bottled at 48%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

Fruit and pastries shape this batch's character, while spice notes provide a counterpoint to the sweetness. Alongside the impressions on the nose and palate, citrus fruit and caramel form part of its aromatic range.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is rich and sweet. Fruity notes of orange, particularly blood orange, glazed or maraschino cherries and raisins take the lead. A hint of ginger adds a spicy accent.
• Palate: Ripe apple, cinnamon pastries and ripe peaches come together on the palate. The sweet fruit also recalls crumble cake with pieces of stewed apple. Liquorice, cinnamon and cloves balance the sweetness with spicy notes.
• Finish: The finish is long, rich and fruity. A delicate, dry spice note accompanies the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Aberlour Distillery stands beside the Lour in the Speyside village of the same name. James Fleming founded the distillery in 1879. It uses local barley and water from the Birkenbush springs. American oak and Oloroso sherry casks are defining elements of its cask maturation. Casg Annamh centres on the combination of selected sherry casks and American oak; Batch 0009 is one of the numbered small batches of this official bottling.
