Special Features:

For this Greedy Angels Chairman's Reserve, Amrut combines Scottish peated barley with a finishing period in a former rum cask. The single malt matured for a total of ten years and forms part of the fourth release in the Greedy Angels series.

Batch 01 was bottled in October 2019 at 57.1%, with a worldwide release of 450 numbered bottles. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a black premium box with a gold-coloured eagle motif. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Peat stays in the background, while wood and toasted wholemeal bread stand out. Salted butter and redcurrant jelly join them. Vanilla, butterscotch, a hint of desiccated coconut and sweet spices round out the nose; the alcohol feels well integrated.
• Palate: The whisky feels dense and oily on the palate. Gentle, earthy peat accompanies prominent wood and a spiciness more assertive than on the nose, with ginger, chilli and a Tabasco-like heat. Very dark chocolate and cocoa powder add bitterness. Ash, smoky grapefruit, passion fruit and a little salt provide further accents. With a little water, smoky chocolate becomes more pronounced while the spiciness subsides.
• Finish: Wood and dark chocolate define the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Amrut Distilleries Private Limited is based in Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore. J.N. Radhakrishna founded the company in 1948 as Amrut Laboratories. Amrut expanded its distilling activities from rum to brandy and then to malt whisky in the 1980s. In 2004, the family-owned company introduced its single malt at the Cafe India restaurant in Glasgow.

High temperatures and low humidity make ten years of maturation at Amrut challenging. This Greedy Angels nevertheless retains its balance.
