Special Features:

Bagheera brings a deliberately small smoky component to Amrut's Indian single malt: the base consists of 99% unpeated and 1% peated barley malt. The whisky then receives a sherry cask finish. Developed jointly with La Maison du Whisky, this bottling combines fruity and nutty notes with vanilla, caramel and a subtle trace of smoke. It is bottled at 46% in a 0.5-litre bottle, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The name Bagheera means “black panther” in Hindi. Initially available as a limited edition, the whisky has been a permanent part of Amrut's range since summer 2024.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose initially reveals dried fruit, walnut, almond and caramel. Vanilla and toffee emerge over time, accompanied by peat and a subtle trace of smoke.
  • Palate: Orange, apricot and peach lead on the palate, complemented by chestnuts and sweet chestnuts. The texture is silky, with toffee emerging on the mid-palate.
  • Finish: The finish is very long, with vanilla taking the lead. The smoky notes intensify as it lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Amrut Distilleries Private Limited produces Bagheera as an official distillery bottling. J. N. Radhakrishna founded the company in Bengaluru in 1948 under the name Amrut Laboratories. Following his death in 1976, his son Neelakanta Rao Jagdale took over its management. Initially focused on Indian spirits, the company developed into a pioneer of Indian single malt. Amrut introduced its single malt in Glasgow in 2004.

Amrut uses traditional pot still distillation to make its whisky. The tropical conditions at its location accelerate cask maturation and the interaction between spirit and wood. These local conditions are an important part of Amrut's approach to production.
