Machrie Moor 10 Year Old combines Lochranza Distillery's fresh Arran style with peated malt. This single malt matures for ten years exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, which previously held bourbon and are being used to mature Scotch whisky for the first time. The malt is peated to 20 ppm. Citrus, orchard fruit and vanilla remain discernible alongside the moderate smoke. The whisky is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Bourbon cask maturation contributes to its smooth, balanced character, while peat adds depth and structure to the fruitiness. A natural sweetness underlies the spice and sweet smoke. The name refers to the prehistoric stone circles of Machrie Moor on the Isle of Arran.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers sweet spices and ripe citrus fruit alongside robust peat smoke. Apple and honey add to the aroma, while vanilla and malt remain subtly in the background.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is creamy, warming, rich and balanced. Orchard fruit, vanilla and malty sweetness accompany the spice. As the palate develops, the sweet peat smoke becomes more prominent, complemented by oak and a hint of pepper.
• Finish: The finish is long, intense, clean and warming. Sweet peat smoke, citrus and vanilla linger with gentle oak and a subtle peppery spice note.

Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran produces Machrie Moor; Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd. is the company behind the distillery and the brand. The distillery lies in the north of the island. Its bright, fruity Arran style remains recognisable in this peated bottling, with smoke complementing the citrus, fruit and vanilla notes.

The distillery uses water from Loch na Davie in the hills above Lochranza to make its whisky. The wort obtained from the malt is fermented with yeast in wooden washbacks. It is then distilled twice in copper pot stills. Cask selection subsequently shapes the whisky's colour and character; Machrie Moor 10 Year Old uses exclusively first-fill bourbon casks.
