Bourbon and red wine casks give Auchentoshan Blood Oak its fruity, spicy character. This triple-distilled Single Malt belongs to the distillery’s Travel-Exclusive range. Its name refers to the reddish hues that develop through maturation in these casks. Red fruit and ginger complement the vanilla and citrus notes, creating an expressive profile.

The whisky is bottled at 46% in a 1 litre bottle and is non-chill filtered. It comes with a presentation tin featuring Glasgow’s skyline. Blood Oak can be enjoyed neat, with a few drops of water or over ice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla and coconut combine with lively citrus notes.
• Palate: The whisky is rich and smooth on the palate. Raspberries, damson plums and maraschino cherries meet vanilla and fresh accents.

Distillery/Bottler:

Auchentoshan is a Lowland distillery near Glasgow. Its history goes back to Duntocher Distillery, which received its legal distilling licence in 1823. Following its sale to John Hart and Alexander Filshie, it was renamed Auchentoshan in 1834.

The distillery uses unpeated malted barley and distils every drop three times. Triple distillation transforms the fermented liquid, at approximately 8% alcohol, into a spirit at 81%. This approach shapes its smooth, fruity house style. Auchentoshan aims for a clear wort from the mashing stage onwards: the barley is milled to suit the lauter tun and initially processed with water at 63.5°C. Water from the third pass is reused for the next mash. For subsequent maturation, the distillery selects casks with different previous contents; for Blood Oak, these are bourbon and red wine casks.
