Long maturation in a First Fill Sherry Puncheon shapes this single-cask bottling from the Connoisseurs Choice range. Balblair distilled the Single Malt in 1993; Gordon & MacPhail bottled it from cask 1961 on 29 August 2024 after 31 years. Batch 24/020 yielded 549 bottles of 0.7 litres each at a natural cask strength of 49.5%. The whisky is non-chill filtered, contains no colouring and comes in a premium wooden box.

The sherry cask complements the whisky's fruity side with dark chocolate and spicy oak. Roasted coffee and vanilla fudge add sweet accents, while Seville orange and pepper keep the profile lively. Charred oak adds to the roasted notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Roasted coffee beans appear first on the nose, followed by vanilla fudge, sultanas and figs. Subtle liquorice notes give way to cinnamon and oak.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and sweet on the palate. Dark chocolate, light fruitcake, roasted hazelnuts and Seville orange define the flavour.
• Finish: The full-bodied finish remains balanced and leaves a delicate pepper note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Balblair distils whisky in Edderton in the northern Highlands. Founded in 1790, the distillery later moved to a site directly beside the railway. Its production methods include clear wort, long fermentation in wooden washbacks and distillation in small, squat stills.

Gordon & MacPhail is responsible for the cask maturation and bottling of this whisky distilled by Balblair. Founded in Elgin in 1895, the family company has spent generations matching spirits from different Scottish distilleries with casks made to its own specifications. George Urquhart established the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968. It offers single-cask and small-batch bottlings, including Single Malts from distilleries whose whiskies are less often available as stand-alone bottlings.
