Special Features:

The Soldier belongs to the Household series of the Macbeth Collection Act Two. This twelve-year-old Benrinnes matured in previously used Sherry Butts. The release comprises 2,400 bottles of 0.7 litres each at 53.5% alcohol. It has no added colouring, is not chill-filtered and comes in gift packaging.

The Sherry casks add currants and dried herbs to the distillery’s robust character. Earthy and grassy impressions sit alongside caramel and a savoury, meaty quality, while leather, malt and clove add further depth.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, damp earth and grass mingle with creamy caramel and a hint of red berries. Herbs, honey and walnuts add further accents.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is robust and dense. Leather and currant compote meet toffee, herbs and a savoury umami note, complemented by malt bread and walnuts.
• Finish: Dark fruit, clove and toasted malt linger on the finish. Herbs and roasted nuts accompany its savoury, dry conclusion.

Distillery/Bottler:

Benrinnes Distillery stands at the northern foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside. Its traditional worm tubs condense the spirit vapour and contribute to the whisky’s full-bodied, weighty character.

Lexi Burgess developed the concept and visual identity of the Macbeth Collection. The series comprises 42 whiskies representing characters from Shakespeare’s play. Elixir Distillers selected and bottled the whiskies in collaboration with Livingstone Rare. Sir Quentin Blake illustrated the characters, and Dave Broom wrote their character texts.
