Special Features:

This Benromach matured for ten years exclusively in a First Fill Sherry Hogshead. Unlike the usual releases matured in sherry and bourbon casks, this whisky centres on the influence of a single sherry cask. It was distilled on 9 May 2014 and bottled from cask #486 on 20 May 2024. Selected for the German market, this official bottling comprises 305 bottles at a cask strength of 59.6%. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Dark chocolate, mellow fruit compote and sweet spices shape the character before a gentle smoky accent follows. Maturation entirely in a sherry cask thus combines with the subtle smoky influence that characterises Benromach’s classic Speyside style.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense dark chocolate and mellow fruit compote lead on the nose. Cinnamon and cloves add to the aromas, accompanied by a hint of smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, bold chocolate notes meet fruity flavours. Delicate oak spice and gentle smoke complement the taste.
• Finish: The finish is long and warm. Chocolate and spices linger, accompanied by a subtle smoky note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Benromach was established in 1898 in Forres, Speyside. The family-owned merchant Gordon & MacPhail acquired the closed distillery in 1993, restored it and resumed production in 1998. The small distillery combines fruity Speyside notes with a subtle smoky influence.

Benromach uses water from the Chapelton Springs for production. Fermentation takes place in larch washbacks and lasts between 67 and 115 hours. Distillation then takes place in two copper pot stills.
