Special Features:

Benromach used entirely unpeated barley malt for this Contrasts edition. Distilled in 2014, the single malt matured for nine years in first-fill sherry and bourbon casks. The whisky was bottled in 2024 at 46%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

Sweet malt and vanilla notes sit alongside spiced apple, fresh lime and floral notes. Candied pineapple, raspberry and raisin add to the fruit, while ginger, liquorice and oak bring a spicy dimension.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings vanilla fudge, malt biscuit and spiced baked apple, accompanied by fresh lime, floral notes and ginger.
• Palate: On the palate, candied pineapple gives way to notes of red apple, raspberry and raisin. Sweet liquorice and oak lie beneath, followed by delicate herbal notes.
• Finish: The medium-long finish is fresh with menthol and fades with a hint of pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Benromach was built in 1898 in Forres, Speyside. Gordon & MacPhail acquired the closed distillery in 1993, restored it and reopened it in 1998. Benromach remains part of the family-run company.

At Benromach, production stages are controlled by hand. The distillery uses both distiller’s yeast and brewer’s yeast for fermentation. Its casks rest in dunnage warehouses with a stable indoor climate. This Contrasts edition differs from the distillery’s usual production through its use of unpeated malt.
