Special Features:

For Black Wood Triple Cask, the separately matured whiskies are blended only after their time in cask. Wild combines Black Forest oak with Amarone and Muscatel wine casks. The whiskies come from different vintages, but the youngest has matured for at least twelve years in small wooden casks. In the cask previously used for Muscatel over a long period, the thick staves have absorbed the wine. The Muscatel casks contribute sweetness and spice, while the Amarone casks provide tannins that give the whisky structure.

The smoke begins with the malt: the barley is dried over a peat fire. After triple distillation, the spirit is reduced to 63% with Black Forest spring water before cask maturation. The finished single malt is bottled unfiltered at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Honey, orange, melon and pear shape the nose. Vanilla and caramel complement the fruit, while oak and smoke remain subtly in the background.
• Palate: On the palate, exotic fruit notes and bitter orange meet vanilla and caramel. The flavour combines sweetness with spice.
• Finish: Vanilla is clearly prominent in the long finish. Exotic fruit accompanies a salty, peaty aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

WILD Schwarzwaldbrennerei & Weingut GmbH is a family business in Gengenbach. Its distilling history dates back to 1855. Alongside whisky, it produces fruit spirits, liqueurs, rum and gin, among other drinks. For its fruit spirits, the family tends a network of its own meadow orchards that has developed over time; knowledge of fruit growing and distillation is passed down through several generations.

Production of Black Wood also begins close to the distillery: spring barley grows at the company’s premises and is processed at a local maltings. Back in Gengenbach, the malt is milled and mashed with soft spring water. Wild yeasts then carry out fermentation.
