For this 18-year-old single malt, Bowmore uses ex-bourbon casks made from American oak and Oloroso sherry casks made from European oak. The two cask types contribute to its combination of fruit, sweetness and spice, while delicate peat smoke remains noticeable. Bowmore’s permanent range received a redesigned presentation from early 2025. The whisky is offered at 43% in gift packaging.

Candied orange and nectarine meet caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Menthol adds a fresh accent alongside almonds, nutmeg, fennel seeds and liquorice. Dark chocolate, honeycomb and maple syrup add to the sweetness; wood spice and light smoke linger.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Candied oranges and ripe nectarines mingle with creamy caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Menthol and delicate, fragrant peat smoke complete the nose.
• Palate: Roasted almonds and nutmeg shape the palate. Floral sweets are followed by fennel seeds, liquorice, dark chocolate, crunchy honeycomb, maple syrup and juicy oranges.
• Finish: Wood spice and light smoke linger in the warm finish; the smoke recalls a freshly lit fire.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bowmore stands on Loch Indaal and was first documented in 1779. It is regarded as Islay’s oldest distillery. Its own malting floors remain part of production: the barley is turned by hand and then dried over fires that also use peat.

Fermentation takes place in six Oregon pine washbacks. Four stills produce the spirit, and only the selected middle cut goes into the casks. The 18-year-old single malt is an official distillery bottling. Bowmore is now part of Suntory Global Spirits.
