Maturation in First Fill American Oak Barrels shapes this 27-year-old Single Malt from Braeval distillery. Released under its former name, Braes of Glenlivet, it is a Rare Release in the Secret Speyside Collection from Chivas Brothers. Launched in 2019, the collection brings together Single Malts from Braes of Glenlivet, Caperdonich, Glen Keith and Longmorn.

The whisky from batch BG/002 was bottled in October 2020 at 48%. This small-batch release is non-chill-filtered and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres with gift packaging. Its fruity character combines red apple with nutty oak and creamy butterscotch notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, red apples meet oak aromas with a nutty note.
• Palate: The whisky is sweet and creamy on the palate. Ripe banana and butterscotch complement its fruity character.
• Finish: The finish is long and velvety.

Distillery/Bottler:

Braeval lies near Chapeltown in Speyside and was founded in 1973 as Braes of Glenlivet. The distillery adopted its current name in 1994 to avoid confusion with The Glenlivet. Releases in the Secret Speyside Collection revive the distillery’s original name.

The distillery stands 362 metres above sea level in a remote landscape of hills. In the past, farmers had to clear snow from the access roads during winter. Production uses water from the Preenie Well and tall copper stills. Chivas Brothers is responsible for the Secret Speyside Collection, which also offers Single Malts from distilleries whose whisky rarely appears under their own names.
