Special Features:

This Bruichladdich matured for 32 years in a single oak cask. It was distilled in October 1991 and bottled by Duncan Taylor in April 2024 from Single Cask 972969. The release comprises 277 bottles at a cask strength of 45.4%. The whisky is non-chill filtered and contains no added colouring; the 0.7-litre bottle comes in a presentation tube.

Fruit and sweet notes meet maritime accents and gentle spice. The long, warming finish reveals oak and a light hint of smoke.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose offers vanilla and caramelised fruit with a hint of sea salt. Ripe fruit and a subtle maritime note round out the aroma.
  • Palate: The whisky feels smooth and full on the palate. Dried fruit, honey and gentle spices combine with the delicate sweetness of malted barley.
  • Finish: The finish is long and warming. Oak notes and a light hint of smoke in the background linger on the palate.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bruichladdich stands on Loch Indaal on Islay and was founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. After its closure in 1994, two employees maintained the distillery and looked after the casks stored there. Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Jim McEwan revived the distillery in 2001. It has belonged to Rémy Cointreau since 2012. The distillery produces unpeated single malt under the Bruichladdich name, while Port Charlotte and Octomore are its peated whiskies.

Duncan Taylor was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask merchant. Over the decades, it built up stocks of rare, long-matured whiskies that form the basis of its independent bottlings. Today, the company operates in Huntly in Aberdeenshire, where it has its own cask warehouses, cooperage and bottling facility. For this edition, Duncan Taylor selected cask 972969 and independently bottled the Bruichladdich that had matured in it.
