Special Features:

A finish in a Sauternes barrique gives this long-aged Bunnahabhain its distinctive cask influence. Distilled in 1991, the whisky was bottled after 32 years by Murray McDavid for the Mission Gold series. Cask 2003082 yielded 180 bottles in 2024 at 44.1%. This smoky Islay single malt was bottled without chill filtration or added colour and comes in gift packaging.

Dried mango, salty peach and orange oil sit alongside grilled pineapple and an oily texture. Smoky, coastal impressions accompany the fruit into the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain stands on Islay’s remote north-east coast. Founded in 1881, the distillery began production in 1883; its founders included William Robertson and William and James Greenlees. It uses water from the Margadale spring. Its regular house style is unpeated, whereas this single-cask bottling shows smoke. Bunnahabhain is part of the CVH Spirits brand portfolio.

Independent bottler Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright. Selecting unusual maturation casks, particularly former wine casks, has been part of its approach from the beginning. Following its time at Bruichladdich, Coleburn Distillery in Speyside became its site for storage and bottling. Mission Gold brings together older and rare whiskies from the bottler’s range.
