Toiteach A Dhà roughly means “smoky two” and is the second smoky release after the original Toiteach. Bunnahabhain uses peated barley malt for this single malt, which matures in bourbon and sherry casks. Sherry has a more pronounced influence here than in its predecessor.

Smoke and sweet Oloroso notes meet oak and pepper. Maritime salinity, red berries and dark chocolate add further layers. The bottle contains 0.2 litres of the same whisky in a smaller format. It has an alcohol content of 46.3%, contains no added colour and is not chill-filtered. It comes in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers peat smoke, sherry and pronounced oak. Salty notes and red berries add to the impression.
• Palate: Warming peat comes first on the palate, followed by sweet Oloroso influence, oak and a touch of pepper. Smoked fish lends a savoury note.
• Finish: The medium-long to long finish is smoky, with lingering dry-feeling sherry notes, oak, pepper, salt and dark chocolate.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain stands in north-eastern Islay beside the Sound of Islay. Founded in 1881, the distillery began production in 1883. While its better-known single malts are predominantly unpeated, Toiteach A Dhà shows its smoky side.

The distillery’s tall, pear-shaped stills and their long necks favour a lighter spirit. For Toiteach A Dhà, Bunnahabhain combines peated barley malt with a pronounced influence from sherry casks. The whisky is an original Bunnahabhain bottling.
