Cardhu 18 Year Old centres on extended maturation with two cask influences: the Single Malt matures mainly in Bourbon Barrels, complemented by sherry casks. After 18 years, it is bottled at 40% alcohol. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Its character combines a soft, fruity core with chocolate notes and a velvety mouthfeel. A few drops of water make it feel lighter and softer still, without substantially changing the balance of its flavours.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Initially restrained, the nose opens up with a little time. Macerated pears, plums and cherries mingle with hints of pineapple and gooseberry. Delicate notes of wild roses, menthol and polished leather are joined by touches of Christmas cake and butter biscuits.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft, sweet and velvety on the palate, with lively acidity providing a counterpoint. Fruit remains at the centre, alongside chocolate.
• Finish: The long finish remains smooth, becomes gently drying and leaves distinct cocoa notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Cardhu Distillery is located in Knockando in Scotland's Speyside region. Its history traces a small family operation that became an officially established distillery in 1824. Helen Cumming shaped its early years; her daughter-in-law Elizabeth later commissioned a new distillery and secured Cardhu as a trademark.

Cardhu uses water from springs on Mannoch Hill and from the Lyne Burn for production. Fermentation lasts around 75 hours and contributes to the distillery's fruity character. Cardhu now belongs to Diageo, and its malt also plays an important role in Johnnie Walker blended whiskies.
