Deanston 18 Year Old spends its entire 18-year maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon casks. This full maturation brings vanilla sweetness and oak spice together with the character of the spirit. The unpeated single malt is bottled at 46.3%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a tube.

Floral notes, fresh grass and malt appear alongside honey, barley sugar, crisp apple and citrus. Tobacco and nutmeg add spice, while ginger biscuits and white pepper accompany the sweetness on the palate. A waxy texture is as much a part of this whisky’s character as its dry, warming finish marked by ginger and honey.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, floral notes, malt and fresh grass mingle with vanilla and honey. American oak is also apparent, with hints of tobacco and nutmeg.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet barley sugar and Manuka honey meet citrus and ginger biscuits. White pepper adds a spicy dimension.
• Finish: The finish is dry and spicy, with ginger and honey leaving a warming aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Deanston Distillery occupies a former cotton mill beside the River Teith. Built in 1785, the building was converted into a distillery in 1966. The mill once harnessed the river’s power.

Deanston uses an open mash tun and long fermentation. The distillery produces its Highland single malt and bottles the 18 Year Old itself. Along with Bunnahabhain and Tobermory, Deanston forms part of CVH Spirits’ distillery portfolio.
