A single Hogshead and decades of maturation shape this Dufftown from the Exceptional Casks series. The single malt was distilled in 1975 and bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd in 2023 from cask number 10430. The release comprises 192 bottles. It was bottled at its natural cask strength of 40.1%, without added colour or chill filtration, and comes in gift packaging.

This bottling belongs to Berry Bros. & Rudd’s autumn 2023 selection, whose Scottish focus was on Speyside. Its character brings together floral and fruity impressions, woody notes and gentle spice. A hint of smoked pineapple adds to this range on the palate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, buttered toast and rose water meet the scent of meadow flowers.
• Palate: The impressions unfold gradually on the palate: chewy fruit sweets mingle with sandalwood, argan oil and smoked pineapple. Warm cherry notes emerge at the back of the palate.
• Finish: Gentle spice notes and orange peel linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dufftown lies in Scotland’s Speyside region. The distillery was founded in 1895 as Dufftown-Glenlivet and began production in 1896. Its original buildings had previously served as a grain mill. Its water comes from Jock's Well in the Conval Hills. The expansion of its distillation facilities also provides historical context for this vintage: the number of stills increased from two to four in 1974, followed by an expansion to six in 1979. Dufftown is also an important component of Bell’s blends.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is responsible for this independent bottling. The London firm’s history began in 1698, when the widow Bourne opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street selling coffee, tea and spices, among other goods. Wine and spirits later became its main focus. The company has bottled spirits under its own name since the early 19th century. For its seasonal releases, the team selects individual bottlings from different distilleries and regions; this Dufftown was part of the third selection of 2023.
