Elements of Islay Bourbon Cask brings together smoky Islay malts matured in Bourbon Barrels. The blend combines whiskies from bourbon casks used for Scotch maturation for the first time with whiskies from previously used bourbon casks. A malt from the island’s south coast contributes powerful barbecue smoke notes, while a malt from the north coast adds subtler, lively accents. Alongside Cask Edit and Sherry Cask, Bourbon Cask forms part of the brand’s permanent core range.

This bottling combines coal and peat smoke with tropical fruit, maple syrup and sweet pastry notes. It is bottled at 54.5% without chill filtration or added colouring. The clear bottle, with its laboratory-inspired label, contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sugar and vanilla pods sit alongside fresh tropical fruit. Vanilla and amber notes recall scented candles, while a light touch of coal smoke complements the sweet aromas.
• Palate: The palate reveals cappuccino dusted with chocolate powder, warm brioche with vanilla cream and tart fruit poached in maple syrup. Powerful peat smoke provides a marked contrast. Notes of vanilla cupcakes with sweet butter icing follow.
• Finish: Sweet, creamy vanilla lingers on the finish, accompanied by a delicate note of peat smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Elements of Islay is the work of independent bottler and blender Elixir Distillers, co-founded by Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. The brand was launched in 2008 with a focus on Islay whisky. In 2017, the bottling business previously known as Speciality Drinks became Elixir Distillers; Cask Edit, Bourbon Cask and Sherry Cask joined the range as new core bottlings in 2022.

Elements of Islay combines permanently available blended malts with limited single malts from individual island distilleries. These single malts are identified by abbreviations inspired by chemical element symbols, together with batch numbers. They may come from a single cask or small selections of two to ten casks. The specially designed bottles reflect the laboratory aesthetic. Oliver Chilton is the Head Blender responsible for Bourbon Cask.
