Special Features:

The miniature contains Elsburn The Harz in a 0.05-litre bottle. Hercynian uses locally grown barley for this single malt. Its malt blend consists of 95% conventional malt and 5% malt dried over wood smoke. After a long fermentation and double distillation, the whisky matures in first- and second-fill sherry casks and first-fill bourbon casks. In the final bottling, whisky from first-fill sherry casks accounts for 46%, whisky from second-fill sherry casks for 41%, and whisky from first-fill bourbon casks for 13%. Wood smoke adds a subtle accent alongside the fruit and sweet notes.

Apricot, red berries and tropical fruit are part of its character, alongside raisins, vanilla, toffee, caramel and spiced malt. On the palate, a creamy texture, oak spice and a barely perceptible hint of wood smoke emerge; milk chocolate, honey and fruitcake shape the finish. Hercynian bottles the whisky at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. The miniature comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, apricot, red berries and tropical fruit meet sweet dried fruit, vanilla, toffee and spiced malt.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is robust and silky-creamy. Apricot, raisins, red berries and tropical fruit mingle with caramel, cream candies and mild oak spice; wood smoke remains a barely perceptible hint.
• Finish: The long, creamy finish recalls milk chocolate, honey and moist fruitcake.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hammerschmiede has made spirits since 1985 and whisky since 2002. Its whisky project began in Wieda; after the move to the Elsbach valley near Zorge, the name The Glen Els was created. New bottlings have carried the Elsburn name since 2019. Hercynian Distilling uses pot stills and bottles its own whiskies. For The Harz, the distillery brings together locally grown grain, long fermentation and a selection of sherry and bourbon casks.
