Hand-selected ex-bourbon barrels and rebuilt hogsheads are used for this 18-year-old Glen Grant. Extended maturation in these oak casks accompanies a character that brings together floral notes, malty caramel, vanilla and dried raisins. Butterscotch, a buttery caramel note, and subtle spice also feature. The single malt has a bright golden colour in the glass.

This non-smoky official bottling from Speyside has an alcohol content of 43% and contains no added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Grant distillery stands on the northern edge of Rothes in Scotland’s Speyside region. Brothers John and James Grant founded it in 1840. Their enthusiasm for technological developments extended beyond whisky production: James Grant also founded the Morayshire Railway Company, whose railway linked Lossiemouth with Elgin and helped establish regional supply routes.

James “The Major” Grant took over the distillery in 1872 and expanded it. He introduced tall, slender stills and water-cooled purifiers that help select fine alcohol vapours. These copper stills and their additional cooling equipment remain part of the distillery’s facilities. He was also responsible for the garden established in 1886, where he had plants and fruits collected on his travels cultivated.
