Special Features:

This Glen Spey matured in a single Hogshead for the Glens & Valleys range by Berry Bros. & Rudd. The whisky was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2024 after 14 years of maturation. Cask 804619 yielded 267 bottles at a cask strength of 55% alcohol. This Single Malt retains its natural colour and is non-chill-filtered.

Its character brings together honey-sweet orchard fruit, vanilla, caramel, nutty undertones and subtle oak spice. On the palate, a fruity sweetness reminiscent of Sauternes combines with apple, peach, warming ginger and a hint of nutmeg.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose has a freshness reminiscent of a forest after rain, with notes of grass, lemon and ripe peach.
  • Palate: The palate offers stewed apple and peach with a fruity sweetness reminiscent of Sauternes. Ginger adds warmth, while nutmeg appears as a delicate nuance. The fresh impressions of the nose continue, complemented by rich, nutty undertones.
  • Finish: Sweet fruit and honey linger in the long finish. It is smooth and rounded, accompanied by a hint of spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Spey is located in Rothes in Scotland's Speyside region. James Stuart founded the distillery in 1878 under the name Mill of Rothes. It acquired its present name in 1887 following its sale to W&A Gilbey. Much of its production goes into blends such as J&B; Glen Spey is comparatively rare as a Single Malt. Its stills are fitted with purifier pipes, which contribute to the distillery's slightly oily, nutty house style.

Berry Bros. & Rudd selected the Hogshead for Glens & Valleys and bottled the whisky from it as an independent bottler. Founded in 1698, the London merchant is still based at No. 3 St James's Street. Its earliest known own bottling of Scotch from a cask dates to 1853, placing the origins of its independent spirits bottlings well back in the 19th century.
