Glenallachie 2008/2023 - 14 yo - #30900803 (Duncan Taylor)

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 54.1% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No

Special Features:

Maturation in a single sherry cask shapes this GlenAllachie. The whisky was distilled in August 2008 and bottled after 14 years in July 2023 by Duncan Taylor for the Dimensions Collection. Cask 30900803 yielded 628 bottles at 54.1%. The single malt is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The sherry influence brings together dark fruit and chocolate with pastry, spices and roasted coffee. Alongside the fruity sweetness, oak spice on the nose and roasted notes and woody accents on the palate add further dimensions. The whisky is not smoky and comes in a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is intense, fruity and sweet. Ripe cherries, blackberries and plums combine with dark caramel, succulent dates and bitter chocolate. Oak spice, cinnamon and roasted coffee round out the bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky recalls freshly baked raisin rolls with generous icing and cinnamon. Apple purée with raisins and toasted almonds, chocolate-covered dates and anise pastries join these flavours. Roasted notes and woody accents complement the taste.
• Finish: Pronounced sherry notes persist through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The GlenAllachie Distillery produced this Speyside single malt in 2008; Duncan Taylor selected the whisky from the sherry cask for this independent single-cask bottling. In 1967, William Delmé-Evans designed the distillery to operate almost entirely by gravity to reduce its energy requirements, and production began in 1968. Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson took over the business in 2017. This whisky was therefore distilled before the change of ownership.

Duncan Taylor began in Glasgow as a trader and broker of whisky casks. Over the decades, the company built up a large collection of its own casks of old and rare Scotch whisky. In Huntly, the family-owned bottler has its own cask storage and bottling facilities, as well as a cooperage. Cask care and bottling are thus part of its own operations.
