Special Features:

This limited Glencadam release combines maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks with a Madeira finish. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected whisky distilled in 2008 from the distillery’s historic warehouses. The selected whiskies were married and then given further maturation in wine casks from Portugal’s Madeira islands. These two successive cask influences give the whisky a sweet, nutty and fruity character.

The Single Malt was bottled in 2023 after a total of 15 years of maturation. The edition comprises 5,826 individually numbered bottles. Bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring, the whisky comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a presentation tube.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, butterscotch and ginger biscuits mingle with caramelised pecans, dried pineapple and baking spices.
  • Palate: The whisky has a mouth-filling texture. Peach pastries, light sugar syrup and crème caramel meet toasted walnuts, praline and candied fruit peel.
  • Finish: The finish brings brandy butter, a sweet buttercream with brandy, alongside honey cake and salted caramel. Dark chocolate and cinnamon then linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glencadam is located in Brechin in the eastern Highlands. David Scott founded the distillery in 1825 on land leased from his father-in-law, George Cooper. Following its closure in 2000, Angus Dundee Distillers acquired the distillery in 2003 and resumed production that same year.

The distillery uses unpeated Scottish malted barley, which is ground in a historic Porteus mill. In the mash tun, sugars are extracted from the grist in three stages using progressively hotter water. The resulting wort is fermented with distiller’s yeast in Oregon pine washbacks. For maturation, Glencadam uses, among other facilities, traditional dunnage warehouses dating from its founding year of 1825.
