Glencadam Reserva de Jerez combines long maturation in American ex-bourbon casks with a finish in Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez in Spain. This Single Malt was distilled in 1996 and is 27 years old. After the bourbon-cask-matured whiskies were married, they underwent further maturation in the sherry casks. The limited edition comprises 1,691 individually numbered bottles and was bottled at 46%.

Bourbon maturation and the sherry finish bring together praline, honey and cooked fruit with raisins, tobacco, spiced apple, nuts and espresso. The whisky is natural in colour and non-chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, chocolate praline, caramelised almonds and cocoa powder meet cooked fruit, Manuka honey and sweet cinnamon.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy on the palate, with Swiss chocolate and warm butterscotch. Sultanas, rolling tobacco, spiced apples and warming wood spices add further notes.
• Finish: The finish feels rounded: dates and chocolate fudge cake gradually give way to lingering espresso and toasted nuts.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glencadam was founded in 1825 by David Scott and is situated in Brechin in the eastern Highlands. Following its closure in 2000, Angus Dundee Distillers acquired the distillery in 2003 and restarted production.

The distillery uses a historic Porteus mill and a traditional mash tun with a rake and plough. The wort ferments with distillers’ yeast in Oregon pine washbacks; the whisky matures in locations including the historic dunnage warehouses dating from 1825. For this official bottling, the Master Distiller selected the Single Malt distilled in 1996 and matured in ex-bourbon casks from these warehouses, and oversaw the creation of the edition.
