Ode to the Valley combines GlenDronach’s sherry-cask style with maturation in Ruby Port casks from Portugal’s Douro Valley. It belongs to the Master’s Anthology, a series exploring different facets of sherry-cask maturation. Together, the two cask types shape its fruit-forward character and berry notes.

Summer berries, blackberries and plums define the profile. Milk chocolate, Demerara sugar and apricot glaze appear alongside baked apple and ginger biscuits. Gentle spice and a balanced oak note complement the fruit. The whisky has a natural colour and is bottled without chill filtration at 46.2% in 0.7-litre bottles.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, late-ripening summer berries meet milk chocolate, Demerara sugar and apricot glaze.
• Palate: The palate brings blackberries and plums alongside baked apple crumble and fresh ginger biscuits.
• Finish: Ripe berries, ginger, cinnamon and brown sugar remain present through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Allardice founded GlenDronach with other farmers in 1826 in the Valley of Forgue near Huntly. The distillery built its reputation on sherry-cask-matured Highland single malt. Today, it uses wooden washbacks made from Scottish larch for fermentation. Its distinctively shaped stills and traditional dunnage warehouses are also part of its production methods.

GlenDronach resumed production in 2002 after a six-year closure. Brown-Forman has owned the distillery since 2016, the year Rachel Barrie was appointed Master Blender. Ode to the Valley is an official GlenDronach bottling.
