Maturation entirely in Oloroso sherry casks shapes this 25-year-old Glenfarclas. Part of the distillery's Classic Range, it combines a robust body with a balanced interplay of sherry and oak. Its amber colour with deep golden highlights comes without added colouring.

The whisky is bottled at 43% without chill filtration. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a dark blue tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, jam and honey meet freshly ground coffee, sherry and nuts. Delicate oak tannins add to the layered bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and robust on the palate. Sherry and oak are equally present, with neither overshadowing the other.
• Finish: The intense finish is long, dry and malty. Dark chocolate lingers at the back of the mouth.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenfarclas lies in Speyside at the foot of Ben Rinnes. Its Gaelic name roughly means “valley of the green pasture”. The independent distillery is run by the Grant family. Its spring water comes from the mountain slopes, and distillation takes place twice in direct-fired pot stills.

John Grant personally travels to a family-run bodega in Spain to select casks. There, he chooses European oak casks that previously held Oloroso sherry. This careful selection of the casks' previous contents is as much a part of Glenfarclas's approach as the traditional direct firing of its stills.
