A Tale of Ice Cream is Glenmorangie's fifth release in the experimental A Tale Of… series. Alongside single malt matured in bourbon casks, this limited edition includes Glenmorangie whisky finished in high-vanillin casks for the first time. These new oak casks were specially toasted to bring out their vanilla notes and express the creamy sweetness of ice cream through the aromas and flavours of a Highland Single Malt.

The vanilla contributed by the casks is complemented by honey, candied orange, peach, raisin bread, marzipan, fudge, brioche and warming spices, adding to the dessert-like character. A note of lemon sorbet also forms part of the sweet, fruity profile. On the palate, fizzy lemon sherbet adds a citrus accent, while delicate anise notes emerge in the long finish. The pastel-coloured gift packaging draws on the colours, sauces and toppings of an ice cream parlour.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Manuka honey stands out on the nose, accompanied by lemon butter candy, the aroma of raisin bread baking, candied orange peel, peach and toffee. A delicate spicy note complements the aromas. A little water reveals vanilla cream with hints of coconut and almond marzipan.
• Palate: The whisky initially feels thick, rich and creamy on the palate. This is followed by a pronounced sweet and spicy fullness with brioche, almond marzipan, honeycomb, fudge, fizzy lemon sherbet and desiccated coconut. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove provide warming spice.
• Finish: The finish is long and lingering. Delicate notes of toffee apple and sweet popcorn combine with a note of anise.

Glenmorangie Distillery has been making single malt in the Scottish Highlands since 1843. Its particularly tall stills shape the delicate, fruity character of the spirit. A Tale of Ice Cream is an official Glenmorangie bottling developed through the collaboration of Dr Bill Lumsden and Master Blender Gillian Macdonald. The A Tale Of… series gives them scope to experiment with new flavour profiles and cask maturation.
