For Quinta Ruban, Glenmorangie combines maturation in bourbon casks with a finishing period in Ruby Port casks from Portuguese wine estates known as quintas. The whisky first spends at least ten years in former bourbon casks made from American white oak. It then continues to mature in selected port wine casks until it reaches a total age of 14 years. This additional maturation adds dark chocolate and an interplay of sweet and dry flavours to the distillery's fruity character.

Alongside chocolate, peppermint and mandarin, its aromatic range includes walnut, black pepper and the sweetness of melted marshmallows. This non-smoky Single Malt is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals fruity and floral aromas with a tart orange note. Subtle hints of sandalwood and dark chocolate complement the bouquet. A little water brings out chocolate truffles, marshmallows and coconut, while a subtle woody impression remains.
• Palate: The whisky feels rich and velvety on the palate. Mint chocolate unfolds before fruit sweets and the fruitiness of ripe mandarins follow. Subtle nuances of chocolate truffles and cask wood add to the flavours.
• Finish: Chocolate, mint and orange linger through the long finish, together with nutty notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenmorangie was established in 1843, when William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands. It is located in Tain, Ross-shire. Gordon L Smart led the distillery for fifty years from 1920. His longstanding core workforce, known as the “16 Men of Tain”, brought extensive experience in whisky production.

A defining feature of distillation is the unusually tall stills, with copper necks measuring 5.14 metres. Only the lightest vapours reach the top, encouraging the spirit's delicate, fruity character. Glenmorangie has also spent decades exploring additional maturation in other types of cask: as early as 1987, the distillery introduced Glenmorangie 1963, a whisky made using this approach. The search for casks that add further aromas to the distillery's original character also underpins Quinta Ruban.
