Special Features:

This single-cask bottling combines Glenrothes' fruity style with the influence of an Oloroso sherry cask. The whisky was distilled in August 2012 and bottled from cask #6364 in June 2024 after eleven years. It yielded 326 bottles for The Whisky Cellar's Private Cellars Selection. The Single Malt was bottled at 57.5%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The sherry influence brings dark fruit, raisins and chocolate to the interplay of orange, almonds and maple syrup. Tobacco and black pepper complement the sweetness, while a subtle oak note adds a woody accent. The whisky can also be tasted with a little water to explore further nuances.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Intense orange marmalade, toasted almonds and dark syrup lead on the nose. Gentle spice and sweet chocolate notes complement the aroma.
  • Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and intense on the palate. Ripe and candied orange meet maple syrup and velvety almond notes that also recall almond oil. Dried fruit and nuts add to the flavour, while pronounced cigar tobacco and black pepper contrast with a subtle oak note.
  • Finish: The long finish combines fruity sweetness with pronounced peppery spice. It lingers softly and warmly.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glenrothes has been producing whisky in Rothes in Speyside since 1879 and belongs to Edrington. The distillery uses soft spring water from four springs of its own. Its slow distillation and tall stills extend contact with copper and contribute to the bright, fruity character of the new-make spirit.

Keith Bonnington founded The Whisky Cellar in Edinburgh in late 2016. Before that, he had spent many years working in the Scotch whisky industry, including eleven years at Edrington. Experienced industry colleagues help him select casks, while the independent company works with partner businesses for storage and bottling. The selection aims to showcase different flavour profiles rather than restrict itself to a particular age, region or cask type.
