Special Features:

A single Hogshead shapes this Inchgower release. Distilled in 2009, the Single Malt matured in cask number 802327 until 2022 and was bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd. It received no finish. The cask yielded 223 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres.

At 61.9%, the whisky has a high alcohol strength. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no colouring. Its fruity character combines with salty and maritime impressions, while a slightly dry note complements the fruit on the palate. The bottle comes in black gift packaging with an arched viewing window.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Plenty of vanilla leads on the nose. Lemon peel, honey and dark berries combine with almond, marzipan and a doughy impression. Tobacco, hay, spices and white pepper complement the aroma, with a discreet nuance of leather.
  • Palate: The whisky is punchy and spicy on the palate, with citrus, chilli and ginger. Honeyed sweetness, pepper, nuts and wood complement the taste, along with a hint of leather.
  • Finish: The long finish is spicy, with a burning warmth. Citrus, pepper and chilli linger alongside vanilla and honey.

Distillery/Bottler:

Inchgower lies near the coastal town of Buckie in Speyside. The distillery was built in 1871. Following bankruptcy in 1936, it was taken over and then sold to a large distilling company in 1938. Only a small proportion of its production is bottled as Single Malt. Single-cask releases such as this therefore offer access to the distillery’s whisky beyond its use in blends.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is the independent bottler behind this edition. The London company traces its origins to a grocery shop opened by the widow Bourne opposite St James’s Palace in 1698. During the 19th century, its focus increasingly shifted towards wine and spirits. The development of Cutty Sark in 1923 made whisky an important part of the company’s history. The business remains family-run and retains its connection to its historic premises at No.3 St James’s Street.
