Special Features:
Inchmurrin expresses the fruity, floral side of Loch Lomond Distillery. For this twelve-year-old Single Malt, the distillery uses only unpeated spirit from its Straight Neck Pot Stills. Their cylindrical necks contain special distillation plates that allow precise control of the cut points during distillation. This enables the distillery to bring out different aromatic characteristics.
The whisky matures for twelve years in three types of American oak cask: first-fill bourbon casks, refill casks previously used to mature whisky, and recharred casks. The whiskies matured in these casks are then married together. Master Blender Michael Henry brings the selection together to create the finished Inchmurrin. Alongside its fruit notes, grassy and floral impressions and crème caramel also contribute to this bottling's character.
The whisky is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes with gift packaging. Inchmurrin takes its name from the largest island in Loch Lomond, also known as the grassy island.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Pear drops and sweet toffee lead on the nose. A light note of freshly cut hay complements the fruity aroma.
- Palate: On the palate, citrus notes of Seville orange initially grow in intensity before softening and developing into peach and apricot. The fruit then gives way to creamy fudge and vanilla.
- Finish: The medium-length finish leaves a peppery impression.
Distillery/Bottler:
Loch Lomond Distillery is located in Alexandria in the Scottish Highlands. The present-day distillery was established in 1965 at the initiative of Littlemill's owners at the time and opened in 1966. Initially, it operated exclusively with Straight Neck Pot Stills; traditional swan-neck pot stills were added in 1998.
Loch Lomond's production methods include a fermentation of around 92 hours, during which the underlying fruity character develops. Different stills, cut points and the use of peated or unpeated malted barley allow the distillery to produce several distinct malt styles. Its own cooperage repairs casks and rechars used casks. This gives Loch Lomond control over both distillation and the preparation of the wood used for maturation.
