Loch Gorm is Kilchoman’s annual series matured exclusively in sherry casks. The 2024 release brings together whisky from 23 Oloroso sherry butts previously filled with Oloroso at Bodega José y Miguel Martín. The spirit was distilled in 2014 and matured for nine years. The edition comprises 18,000 bottles and was made from malt with a peat level of 50 ppm. The whisky is bottled at 46%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

Powerful Islay smoke meets dark fruit, chocolate and nutty sweetness. Kilchoman selects individual casks according to their flavour profiles to balance fruit, peat smoke and citrus sweetness in the assembled whisky.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet barbecue smoke overlays stewed fruit, dark chocolate and dried figs.
• Palate: Delicate peat smoke combines with honey-roasted nuts, cinnamon and malty barley.
• Finish: Fresh citrus notes meet rich toffee on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 2005 by Anthony and Kathy Wills, Kilchoman is a family business on Rockside Farm on Islay. The distillery uses a 90-hour fermentation and small, manually controlled stills. The long fermentation encourages fruity, creamy and buttery notes to develop in the spirit. Kilchoman distils the whisky for this official bottling and bottles its single malts on site at the distillery.

The series takes its name from Loch Gorm, Islay’s largest freshwater loch, close to the distillery. Allt Gleann Osamail, one of its tributaries, supplies Kilchoman with production water. For Loch Gorm, the distillery sources its Oloroso sherry casks from the same bodega to maintain a consistent cask character. This brings together the spirit’s local origins and the considered selection of Spanish sherry casks.
