Special Features:

A single sherry cask shapes this Founder's Reserve from Langatun. Made from malted barley, the whisky was distilled on 11 October 2010 and matured for eleven years in cask number 135. It was bottled on 10 March 2022 at 49.12%. The release comprises 382 numbered bottles, each containing 0.5 litres.

Maturation in a sherry cask brings together dark fruit, spices and bitter oak notes. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. It comes in a wooden box bearing a gold Langatun imprint.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced woody notes sit alongside creamy caramel and popcorn on the nose. Raisins, candied pineapple, marzipan and delicate cinnamon add to the aroma.
• Palate: The palate is shaped by generous maple syrup and caramelised pears. Behind these impressions, notes of nougat, roasted coffee, red wine and liquorice emerge, accompanied by subtle herbal tones.
• Finish: The long, intense finish lingers with pronounced sweetness and sherry notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Langatun's roots lie in Langenthal, where master brewer Jakob Baumberger founded a distillery on his father's farm in 1857. The brand takes its name from the Celtic name for Langenthal. Hans Baumberger III revived the family tradition by producing single malt whisky.

Now based in Aarwangen, Langatun Distillery AG uses copper pot stills for distillation. Maturation and finishing in casks that previously held different wines are a particular focus of its work. This cask selection creates a variety of flavour profiles across the range; for Founder's Reserve number 135, the sherry cask takes centre stage.
