Distilled in 2009, this Ledaig combines 15 years of maturation with a finish in a Saint-Julien barrique that previously held red wine. Murray McDavid bottled the whisky from cask 2100646 in 2024 as part of its Benchmark series. The release comprises 283 bottles at 52.9%; this peated island malt retains its natural colour and is non-chill-filtered.

The wine finish complements a distinctly smoky, maritime character. Earthy peat and sea salt meet fruity notes, with chocolate, cocoa and peppery spice adding further accents. The finish retains an oily texture, dark fruit and lingering smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sea salt and fresh fruit mingle with smoke. Earthy peat, fruit leather and a mineral note round out the bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and intense on the palate. Dark chocolate and dried fruit meet salty coastal smoke, peppery berries and a hint of cocoa, while a subtle pepper note lingers.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming. It has an oily texture, with dark fruit and lingering, soft smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull produced this Ledaig in 2009. The distillery has been distilling on the island since 1798 and makes two distinct single malt ranges: peated Ledaig and unpeated Tobermory.

As the independent bottler, Murray McDavid carried out the finishing maturation and bottled the whisky from cask 2100646. The company was founded in 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Carefully chosen casks and finishing maturation are central to its work. Today, Murray McDavid uses traditional warehouses at its Speyside sites in Coleburn, Royal Brackla and Kinloss.
