Special Features:

A finish in Spanish Rioja wine casks adds fruity accents to this Ledaig's powerful peat smoke. The single malt is made with heavily peated barley. The whisky first matures in ex-bourbon casks before moving into specially selected Rioja casks. This brings together smoke and spice with grapes, sweet berries and lingering saltiness.

Rioja Cask Finish was the first release in the Sinclair Series, which honours distillery founder John Sinclair. The whisky is bottled at 46.3% without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Turkish delight, rose petals, candied fruits and grapes initially lead the nose. Pronounced leather notes and peppery spice then emerge. A hint of chocolate rounds out the bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy on the palate, with plenty of almonds, barley and sweet malt. Ledaig's peppery notes give way to black raspberries, sweet vanilla and cocoa. Cinnamon and hints of freshly cut grass accompany these flavours.
• Finish: Smoke persists on the finish, accompanied by red fruits and a salty note reminiscent of sea spray.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tobermory Distillery stands by the harbour in Tobermory on the Scottish island of Mull and was founded in 1798. It produces two distinct single malt styles under one roof: Tobermory from unpeated barley and the peaty, smoky Ledaig. The distillery draws its water from the nearby Gearr Abhainn stream.

Between 2017 and 2019, the distillery underwent extensive renovation to make production more efficient and sustainable. It continues to produce whiskies in small batches, complementing its range with special cask finishes and limited releases. Master Blender Julieann Fernandez is responsible for shaping the flavour of both whisky styles.
