Lennox Peat 2011/2024 is a 13-year-old, heavily peated Highland single malt from Murray McDavid's Mystery Malt range. The whisky initially matured in bourbon hogsheads before spending five years in small first-fill bourbon casks from Koval Distillery in Chicago. The whiskies from casks 384, 386, 384A and 386A were then married together, creating a release limited to 516 bottles at 52.6%.

The small Koval bourbon casks were chosen to balance the power of the heavily peated whisky. Its character brings together smoky fruit sweetness, creamy notes and hints of pastry. The distillery behind Lennox Peat remains unnamed.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet, smoky banana notes mingle with creamy vanilla.
• Palate: On the palate, tropical fruits meet a lively peat note and apple pastry.
• Finish: The finish fades gently, recalling sweet embers and creamy malt.

Distillery/Bottler:

Murray McDavid includes Lennox Peat in its Mystery Malt range and, as an independent bottler, is responsible for cask selection, further maturation, marrying and bottling. In the traditional warehouses at Coleburn, the Whisky Creations Team monitors the development of the whiskies. It assesses the structure of each spirit and adjusts cask influence and maturation time accordingly. For further maturation, Murray McDavid works with wine producers, bodegas and American whiskey producers, sourcing their freshly emptied casks. For Lennox Peat, these come from Koval Distillery in Chicago.
